Paper 2 mock exam learner response

1) Type up your feedback in full (you do not need to write mark/grade if you do not wish to).

WWW: Excellent knowledge & superb fluent writing.
EBI: More sustained and developed answers, considering non-ideological pleasures and demonstrating knowledge of institutions.

2) Did you succeed in meeting or exceeding your target grade for A Level Media in this paper? If not, how many additional marks do you need to achieve your target grade in Paper 2?

I met my target grade in Paper 2, however I was only 1 mark over the grade boundary for an A so I would have to get 7 more marks in this paper to obtain an A*.

3) Write a question-by-question analysis of your performance. For each question, write how many marks you got from the number available and identify any points that you missed by carefully studying the AQA indicative content in the mark scheme.

Q1: 8/9
Additional points: the minimal style of the cover – in contrast to other magazines – places it as an alternative, independent publication – form of deconstruction

Q2: 15/25
Additional points: The nature of Deutschland 83 as a series representing German history and culture conforms to the aims of public service broadcasting despite being outside of that model – suggesting that the apparent opposition between public and private isn’t always valid.

Q3: 21/25
Additional points: The third-person, open-world nature of the game play could be used to analyse how the player receives the representations and to consider the power relations between play and producer.

Q4: 19/25
Additional points: The third-person, open-world nature of the game play could be used to analyse how the player receives the representations and to consider the power relations between play and producer.

4) Look at question 4 - the synoptic question. How many of the four key concepts did you cover in your answer? Write a new essay plan for this question using the indicative content in the mark scheme and taking care to include at least three of Language - Representations - Audience - Industries. You can use bullet points but make sure you offer enough content to meet the criteria for Level 5 (top level). This will be somewhere between 3-4 well-developed paragraphs planned in some detail.

- Answer which extent- highly agree and reason
- Paragraph 1: GQ, include psychographics and demographics, how they are struggling and trying to diversify (Conde Nast loosing $100m), Link to Hesmondhalgh- 'risky business'
- Paragraph 2: Gentlewomen- who they target, Language of magazine and how it appeals to their target audience, Argue that niche topics do better online- GW Instagram. Mention how feminists feel represented in the magazine
- Paragraph 3: Gentlewomen: Gentlewomen club, stronger community, Scarlett Johansson- links to target audience, Link to participatory culture- Jenkins
- Paragraph 4: GQ: changing brand, modern masculinity, examples from Jonathon Bailey, perhaps traditional male audience is rejecting ideas and do not feel represented

5) Based on the whole of your Paper 2 learner response, plan FIVE topics / concepts / CSPs / theories that you will prioritise in your Easter Media revision timetable.

- Capital CSP
- Industries
- Structuralism
- Regulation
- Uses and Gratifications
